#TeacherTuesday: Bert Shoulberg

Bert Shoulberg, this week’s #TeacherTuesday, is currently a librarian and responsible for media arts at Log College Middle School in Centennial School District PA. She “fell” into teaching while exploring options with the Peace Corps and chose to “make a commitment to working as an inner-city school teacher in Baltimore and Philadelphia.”

Bert joined Centennial in 1997. The students whose lives she has touched over the years were certainly the winners, and regardless of whether she was teaching in the classroom or serving as a librarian, her philosophy has remained intact: “Learning can be transformative; it does move mountains.”

She continues, “The crux of what we do as teachers is to facilitate free thinking and create an environment where students feel safe to make mistakes while taking risks with their learning. There isn’t much that makes me happier than when a student is excited about reading, for I know that he or she has found a life-long friend.”
