We couldn’t be more proud of Brenda Scheffey, this week’s #TeacherTuesday who was nominated for theNational LifeChanger of the Year Award. This health and physical education teacher at Tamanend Middle School in the Central Bucks School District has been a coach, a dean and the athletic director. However, her most profound contribution has been as the leader and facilitator of the school’s “Friends” group. The group, which is growing each year, consists of students who belong to befriend others with autism and enjoy activities inside and outside of school. Her principal believes that Brenda “has made it cool to be kind, and even cooler to be a friend during some of the toughest social years of everyone’s lives.” The group is “a living model of compassion, service, and leadership” and that positive outlook has ripples far beyond the school.
Brenda says, “My goal, each day I teach, is for everyone to achieve success, every day in my class. My expectation is that everyone works hard to include every classmate in all activities. If everyone is included and achieves success, they have fun! Fun is the name of the game.”
