This week’s #TeacherTuesday focus is on Candance Maggioncalda, a photography teacher at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School in Colonial School District. Her considerable accomplishments and contributions were recognized by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association last fall when she was named the state’s 2017 Outstanding Secondary Art Educator.
Candance established and still sponsors the school’s chapter of the National Art Honors Society, which is active in community service projects. She says it makes her proud to see “how much students give back to the school and community with art as a whole.” She also sponsors the Photo Club and created and sponsors a Visual Arts Design Studio at the school.
She says, “When I see a student go on to pursue their passion — like art education, photography, graphic design, ceramics or art — I’m so happy for them, and I feel like I’ve made a difference in this student’s life.” The accomplishments of her students — such as the one who won a Prescription Overdose Awareness Billboard Design Contest in Montgomery County that was used in digital billboards — bring her great satisfaction. “These real-life recognitions that my students accomplish inspire me to keep doing the best job I can do.”
We’d like to focus on the teachers you think are special, so message us on Facebook with information on how to get in touch and we’ll feature that educator in an upcoming #TeacherTuesday.
