Lee Ann van der Kwast, a ninth grade English teacher for Creative Writing and Public Speaking in Methacton High School, is this week’s #TeacherTuesday. According to a colleague, she excels “at relating with kids and getting on their level.”
Lee Ann considers herself fortunate to have had many inspirational teachers in her life including both of her parents. Another encouraging presence was Christopher Corbo at Coatesville Area Senior High School, who “inspired me to become an English teacher because of his enthusiasm and creativity in making literature come alive…,” she says. “I like teaching because it is one of those professions where you can see growth from the beginning to the end of the year. It’s amazing to see reluctant readers enjoy reading and struggling writers improve from the beginning of the year to the end.”
“Throughout my life, I have witnessed the super power of teaching beyond the classroom instruction,” adds Lee Ann. Who else has that super power? Tell us and we’ll feature that individual in an upcoming #TeacherTuesday.
